Attention LIU Scholars,
LIU's Discovery Day is scheduled to take place Wednesday, March 27, 2013. This means there is only a month to prepare your presentations. Ms. Toussaint has informed me that the text you will focus on in your project is Fledgling by Octavia Butler. Using the research papers that you wrote last semester and your overall understanding of this text, we should be developing our presentation around the ideas of sexuality, race, pedophilia, memory and the concept of blood.
The question we aim to answer is : How does Butler take the ordinary and use it to provoke thought in her readers?
Your task: Re-visit your research papers and identify how your work connects to these themes for the project. Also post any suggestions or ideas you have for our Discovery Day presentation. Please see me during the day with questions, comments or concerns.
Butler take the ordinary and use it to provoke thought in her readers through using a dystopia, in which she uses An imaginairy setting where there is unpleasant or bad people and takes real social problems and introduces them in this imaginairy word.My research paper introduces the use of otherness and how people are isoated in society. This could play a mininumized part in this project. Which the use of cameras there could be a scene that we reanact where otherness was shown in the novel Flegling.

The people who are working on the display for Shori's community should start getting the supplies needed for the display, and if you guys cant get it then ask ms. toussaint if there is any where that you guys can get it from inside of the school.
ReplyDeleteAlso, ms. toussaint suggested that we should start working in our groups this saturday. If anyone is able to make it, let me know. We should start at about 12:30.
Who is coming on saturday to start the discovery day project? we need to get started asap because i think we only have about 2 weeks lefted. I dont think that the teaches will be helping us as mucH as they did last year. so this means that everyone has to have their part in it.
